A few Quakers and other interested people began to meet for worship together in homes in DeLand in late 1993.  In 1998, the group was accepted as a Worship Group under the care of Orlando Monthly Meeting.  In 2002, the group reported to Orlando Monthly Meeting that they had moved to an A-Frame home used as a church by the Unitarian Universalists and were meeting in the afternoon. There was good attendance and a children’s program. When the A Frame home was sold, DeLand Worship group moved three times, first to a Montessori School (where we placed a Peace Pole, which is still there).  From there, we moved to a daycare center, and then to a community medical office owned and operated by the Catholic Church.  The Meeting included long-time Friends John & Eleanor Weatherill, Kathy Gaskill, and others.  In 2004, DeLand Worship Group reported to Orlando Monthly Meeting having discussions about moving toward Monthly Meeting status.  Their request for a change of status to Preparative Meeting was approved by Orlando Meeting in 2005.  Although no further official action was taken by Orlando Monthly Meeting, DeLand Preparative Meeting was laid down by its remaining members on September 6, 2009 because of a loss of membership and attendance.  In June of 2019, Ann Jerome, John Margerum, and Bill Kwalwasser, with Cindy Kwalwasser again started to meet in Waiting Worship with a small group of Quakers and interested persons in their home.  From their home, the renewed DeLand Worship Group moved to the Dreka Theater, which was then home to the Collective Church.  They received a grant from Orlando Meeting to help them pay the rent and get back into operation.  When the Collective Church closed, the DeLand Worship Group moved to the DeLand Garden Club, where they are presently meeting.  In 2024, DeLand Worship Group applied for a change of status to that of Monthly Meeting.  A specially called meeting of Southeastern Yearly Meeting has been called for August 31, 2024, to discern the leading of the Spirit with respect to their request.
